Thea is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Masters in Counselling from City University of Seattle, a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University, and a Diploma in Child & Youth Care Counselling from Douglas College. Additionally, she has over 15 years experience working therapeutically with children, youth, families, and individuals with a variety of presenting concerns. Furthermore, she has a background in training and development, leadership, and management in non-profits. In addition to her role with Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych. & Associates, she also works for WorksafeBC as a Mental Health Specialist, where she provides consultation around worker wellbeing.
Additionally, she is a Mental Health Coach with Uprise Australia where she supports executives and employees around the world with enhancing mental/emotional/spiritual wellbeing and building resiliency. On a more personal note, Thea and her husband have two children and a dog and live in the Lower Mainland in the suburbs.
In session, Thea practices collaboratively, and weaves in tools from a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed approaches, Walk & Talk approaches, and motivational interviewing depending on client preferences and needs. Areas of expertise include: wellness, communication, conflict resolution, parenting, thought revising/retraining, value congruence, life skills, anxiety, depression, restorative practice, loss, grief, trauma, self-care, and leadership.
