Sookyung Ahn is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Workplace Consultant at Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych & Associates and MyWorkplaceHealth. Sookyung specializes in couples counselling, working with men, working with those going through life transitions and career transitions, anger management, leadership and management training, and is passionate about working with first responders.
Sookyung holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and Art Therapy from Adler University, as well as an MBA in International Business, and Juris Doctorate. Prior to joining Dr. Samra’s team of associates, Sookyung worked as a General Manager with Diamesco, was a Partner with Mercantile Bancorp, and was a Senior Manager with the Ministry of International Trade. She is fluent in Korean and English and has Intermediate capabilities with French, German, and Spanish.
Sookyung uses various evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, Gottman Couples Therapy [Certified in Level’s 1, 2, & 3], in addition to Art Therapy. Sookyung is also trained in Occupational Awareness Training for Treating First Responder Trauma [Level 1 & 2], and Indigenous Cultural Competency, Narrative Therapy Level 1.
Sookyung has served as a board member of the Association of Cooperative Therapists of Canada, Member of a Registration Process Working Group with the Federation of Associations for Counselling Therapists BC, and Canada Korea Business Association. She has previous experience working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Atira Women’s Resource Society, Turning Point Recovery Society, Open Door Group, Downtown Community Court, Portland Hotel Society, and the Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of British Columbia.
When not counselling, you can find Sookyung painting portraits in her studio in downtown Vancouver, playing jazz music on the piano or practicing passionate Tango music with her accordion.
Sookyung works closely with Dr. Samra to develop clients treatment plans and offers both in-person and online (virtual) counselling, out of her Downtown Vancouver office space.
