Shelley Ugyan (she/her/hers) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor at Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych. & Associates. Shelley believes that every individual, if given warmth, encouragement, the right resources, and the right environment, has an innate ability to reach their full potential. Shelley practices from a client-centered approach and believes that by considering all aspects of an individual, we can start the healing process from within, thus helping individuals to live their most optimal life.
Shelley has a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, and a Bachelor’s of Education from the University of Victoria. She believes in facilitating change in each session from a goal-oriented framework, based on the unique, specific needs of each client. Shelley has experience in individual counselling for anxiety, stress, depression, trauma or loss, pain management, interpersonal issues, and eating disorders.
Shelley specializes in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the therapy of choice for coping with and mastering stress, anxiety, and depression. Shelley also uses other evidence-based modalities such as; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), as needed.
Shelley works closely with Dr. Samra to develop clients’ treatment plans and offers online (virtual) counselling, out of her Vancouver office space.
When not working as a counsellor, you can find Shelley dancing tango in the evenings, meditating, walking in the forest, or on the seawall in the beautiful West End of Vancouver.
