Marissa Bowsfield, M.A. (she/her/hers) is a senior Doctoral Student in the Clinical Psychology Program at Simon Fraser University (SFU) where she is training to become a Registered Psychologist. She completed her B.A. (Hons.) at SFU in 2014 and her M.A. (Clinical Psychology) in 2017, and received the Canadian Psychological Association’s Award for Academic Excellence. She is also a recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s Graduate Scholarship and conducts research on intimate relationships and human sexuality, including issues around body image in sexual relationships.
Marissa presents her research at international psychology conferences and is a member of the Canadian Sex Research Forum and the Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies. Marissa has clinical training in neuropsychological and personality assessment as well as psychological treatment with a focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Her areas of counselling focus include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, interpersonal and intimate relationship distress, and general life stress.
Marissa has worked with Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych. & Associates in a range of roles since 2013, including as honours’ student, research associate, and clinical practicum student. Her current role is that of CBT/Relationship Therapist. Marissa offers sessions via online (virtual) counselling, as well as at Mainland Medical Clinic at 1061 Hamilton Street, Vancouver BC.
