Laura Booiman, MSc. (she/her/hers) is the Clinical & Research Manager at Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych. & Associates and MyWorkplaceHealth. Her passion for scientific research and people recently drove her to pursue a graduate degree, where she graduated with a Master’s of Science (MSc) in Psychology. Prior to obtaining her Master’s Degree, Laura received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of British Columbia (UBC).
While attending graduate school in London, U.K., Laura held a position as a research assistant, researching addictive disorders and the potential incorporation of virtual reality as a future treatment technique. During this time, Laura was also an intern & conference committee member for the Current Advances in Gambling Research (CAGR), UK 2019. Her graduate research focused on the neurosciences behind judgement and decision-making. Laura’s previous work experience includes nearly a decade in the service industry, as well as working as a legal assistant.
Over the years Laura has spent her time volunteering for various organizations such as SHOUT, a mental health support service in the U.K offering a 24-hour suicide text line to those in need, where Laura was a certified crisis counsellor. In Vancouver, she has spent her time volunteering for a Therapeutic Riding Society (STaRS), where she assisted in delivering equine therapy to individuals with various developmental and neurological disorders such as; Parkinson’s Disease, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Upon completing her undergraduate degree, Laura also spent some time volunteering for an NGO in a rural city in Tanzania, where she provided legal aid to impoverished women and children.
When not managing research projects, or overseeing the clinical practice, you can find Laura travelling, hiking, playing golf, or spending time with her close family and friends. Laura hopes to pursue a doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Clinical Psychology.
