Emory Oakley (he/him/his or they/them/theirs) is a content writer and copywriter at Dr. Joti Samra, R.Psych & Associates and MyWorkplaceHealth. He has his B.A in Psychology and BSW from the University of the Fraser Valley as well as course work in Creative Writing through Douglas College and UBC.
Emory has always been passionate about writing and started his writing career as a poet. He has competed nationally at poetry slams including; the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (CFSW), the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) and the Individual World Poetry Slam (IWPS). As well as toured the pacific northwest as a spoken word poet.
His goal is to engage in a writing practice that has a positive impact on individuals and his community; often this includes writing about mental health, gender, sexuality, and other LGBTQ+ issues. This also means supporting businesses and organizations that he aligns with to provide website and social media copy, content creation for blogs, and other platforms, and social media marketing. Emory plans to further his career in writing by continuing his education in marketing.
When he isn’t writing, Emory is probably thinking about writing, spending quality time with his cat, Rocket, working out at the gym or at his favourite craft brewery.
