Clinical Counsellor and Workplace Consultant
Karyn Davies is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers. She holds an MA in Counselling and expressive arts therapy from European Graduate School, and a Bachelor of Social Work from University of Victoria.She completed a course in solution-focused EFAP counselling (Employee and family assistance). She also has a special interest in neuroscience, and has received training on the methods of Dr.Rick Hanson around effective ways to foster positive habit formation. Karyn uses a variety of techniques including: solution-focused therapies, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), emotion-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dr. John Gottman’s approach to relationship therapy, and compassion-focused therapy.
Wherever you find yourself now is an excellent place to begin. Karyn is a relational and compassionate therapist who helps clients through the fear that’s inherent in stretching comfort zones. She finds that therapy is beneficial to a range of people, and believes in creating opportunities to fine-tune personal growth throughout life. She holds a holistic view of health and wellness, and has witnessed the positive effects of clients accessing a variety of professional treatments that nurture the mind, body, and spirit.Her clinical focus includes: Stress management, unclear sense of life purpose, grief and loss, self-criticism and self-doubt, depression and low mood, relationship conflict or breakdown, communication challenges, and emotional triggers that impact daily life.
She has over 14 years of professional experience in adult psychoeducational groupwork and individual support, guest-speaking on a variety of self-care themes, and Program Coordination in a non-profit setting that promotes education, advocacy and psychological health for unpaid caregivers. Her background in the healthcare system positions her well in supporting those coping with system navigation, health diagnoses, adjusting to new life routines, and end-of-life care.
In her practice, Karyn embodies her core values of conscious and whole-hearted living, integrity towards self and others, and interacting with respectfulness and non-judgment. She values the unique perspectives and story of each person, and views therapy as a process of co-creation between client and therapist. In the work together, there is space to honor one’s exisiting successes, while learning how to approach the challenges in more helpful and empowering ways. On the journey of coming to understand oneself more deeply, there are many opportunities to gain new skills, awareness, and a greater connection with one’s strengths.
