Filming on Aldergrove’s reality TV show ran August until December and in January, it’s ready to air.
Corus Entertainment has announced that Million Dollar Neighbourhood will premiere on Jan. 22 on its Oprah Winfrey Network Canada.
Aldergrove was chosen from among various communities contending for the show which focuses on personal financial matters and community fiscal health. Within Aldergrove 100 families were chosen to be part of the show.
“In Million Dollar Neighbourhood viewers will undoubtedly identify with the pitfalls that these families face, from mindless spending to letting back-taxes pile up, to overspending on daily necessities in favour of convenience,” said Vibika Bianchi, a Corus vice president.
“Watching this community struggle to achieve this enormous goal will inspire Canadians and will compel everyone to look at money in a whole new way.”
In each episode, they took on a community challenge and an individual challenge related to money and finances.
To reach the community’s million dollar goal, every family was tasked with the challenge of an average $1,000 net worth increase each week.
Leading up to the airing, the network has created a project to determine what kind of spenders Canadians are: status seeker, emotional over-spender, indulgent parent, adrenaline junkie, or bargain hunter.
Canadian Facebook fans have up until Jan.15 to take the Million Dollar Neighbourhood Challenge by going to www.facebook.com/owncanada and identifying their personality for a chance to win weekly prizes.
