Speaking to children about the horrific Colonel Williams case

Colonel Russell Williams’ guilty plea to break-ins, sexual assault and murder has cut short what was evolving into a trial that would grip the world. But that doesn’t stop the public from viewing pictures on the Internet of the formerly well-respected military leader dressed in women’s under garments and other evidence that could have been used in his trial. Dr. Joti Samra, clinical psychologist and adjunct professor in SFU Health Sciences, said that parents must be ready to give explanations to children who may see the photos in the media; parents face challenges in explaining these images to children who are accessing them on the Internet via ongoing media coverage.
